Controllers
When a layman looks at all these cockamany gizmos with wires stickin’ out all over. It’s not lost on me that classifying them in esoteric & arbitrary categories like ‘electroniums’, ‘modules’, ‘controllers’ etc. is kind of an abstruse exercise. So I will offer this in the hope of clarification. I’m designating the devices on this page as ‘Controllers’ because, by & large, they make no sound themselves. (thus any demonstration videos herein will be silent). What they do instead is turn some physical gesture, out in the real-world, into electrical signals that CONTROL the sound-making gadgets on my other pages. Designing this kind of device is every bit as rewarding for me as the circuits that make sound… and every bit as much FUN!
Controllers are alluring because these are the devices that I get to TOUCH In a sense they are the machines that allow the player to reach-in and make the MUSIC out of the mere sounds.
(Also, Controllers are the only devices in my oeuvre that seem to interest cats)
